Clutching

If you're experiencing some jerky takeoffs with your Full-Size Polaris Ranger XP 1000, slow shifting on your Full-Size Ranger 900, or your stock Full-Size 900 clutch isn't performing well with your large, aftermarket tires, it may be time to consider an aftermarket clutch to improve your vehicle's performance. You have several options available, including clutches made by Gillomen, Duraclutch, RVS Performance, SuperATV, and the STM Billet clutch. These aftermarket clutches are designed to enhance your vehicle's low- and mid-range power and provide smoother engagements. They can make a significant difference if you run heavy aftermarket tires. Install an aftermarket clutch upgrade and enjoy a smoother ride that responds more effectively to your driving style.

Clutch components are an essential part of any UTV, and even if you have a stock machine, they can still wear out and break down with use. Fortunately, there are options for rebuilding your Polaris Ranger clutch that don't require a complete replacement. Here are some things to keep in mind when buying Polaris Ranger clutching replacement parts.

Firstly, it's important to note that you may not need to replace your entire Polaris Ranger clutch. Instead, you may only need to replace one part, like a spring, spool, or ring & pinion gear set. Luckily, the replacement process for these parts is relatively simple, and you don't even have to remove the primary clutch from the machine to do so. By taking the primary bolt out and loosening the other bolts on the face of the clutch while compressing the spring, you can easily replace the old spring with a new one.

If you're experiencing issues with your driveshaft running into the frame of your Full-Size Ranger, a clutch spacing tool may be in order. However, this only applies to older models, as newer models have redesigned transmission connection points that no longer require this tool. To address the issue, use an alignment tool while your motor and transmission mounts are loose, then align the bracket bolts that hold the motor to the transmission and tighten the motor and transmission mounts. This will help fix the problem, and ensure that your driveshaft doesn't rub against the frame.

It's also important to note that Polaris has made design changes to the Full-Size Polaris Ranger that have eliminated some of the alignment steps required in older models. Over time, Polaris discovered that this was a step that could be designed out using critical dimension casting and machining, saving factory assembly techs time and effort. However, if alignment is off by even as little as +/- 0.015", belt life can be jeopardized, as well as eccentric loading on bearings, helixes, sheaves, and more.

If you're interested in learning more about design changes to the Full-Size Polaris Ranger or want more information about Polaris Ranger clutches and clutch components, reach out to a reputable supplier. They'll be happy to help you find the right parts for your UTV and ensure that your clutching system is working optimally. By keeping these factors in mind, you can avoid costly repairs and ensure that your Polaris Ranger is running smoothly for years to come.
